Texas Stars, HealthTronics Fight Prostate Cancer with Beards and Ice

AUSTIN, Texas – November 6, 2015 – What do beards and ice have to do with fighting prostate cancer?

The Texas Stars, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Dallas Stars, and HealthTronics, Inc., an Austin-based mobile medical services and medical devices company, are teaming up to sport mustaches and beards to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer.

The two organizations have joined the Grow & Give campaign launched by ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer, a national nonprofit organization with the mission to end prostate cancer. Texas Stars’ players and HealthTronics’ employees are sprouting beards, mustaches, goatees and other facial hair in November and encouraging friends, family and fans to support their ‘razor-free’ cause.

“Our affiliation with the Texas Stars is a natural fit, as both our organizations support these causes to help stop cancer cold,” said Russell Newman, HealthTronics’ President.

One of HealthTronics’ key products, a medical technology called cryotherapy, used to freeze cancer cells for prostate, lung and kidney cancer, aims to put cancer on ice, explained Newman.

On November 21, the Texas Stars will use a Jumbotron “mustache cam” to catch fans who have ditched the razor to don their best facial hair. They will also pass out HealthTronics/Texas Stars scarves to the first 2,500 fans at that game.

This is the second year that HealthTronics has partnered with the Texas Stars to advance the prostate cancer fight. Last year, HealthTronics sponsored ‘Pucks for Prostates’, pledging a donation to prostate cancer research through the Texas Stars Foundation for every goal the Texas Stars scored at home during the 2014-15 hockey season. At the end of the season, the Texas Stars scored 129 regular season goals, which translated into a donation of $6,450 from the Texas Stars Foundation to ZERO: The End of Prostate Cancer.

“HealthTronics has been a committed partner for us in this endeavor to raise awareness and support the fight against cancer”, said Michael Delay, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the Texas Stars. “We’re proud to be a part of the joint effort created by HealthTronics and ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer.”
